Garden along the road less traveled

As the site grows this is where the update news can be found.

Site news:

March 2012. I am writing new pages after spending much time fighting off hackers and reinstalling my files to keep the site safe. I may resort to moving to a different host, as this was extremely disturbing and time consuming. But the good news is that I have added pages, and posts. One that might not be immediate noticeable is the Pathways page. It is the first published page of the Garden Structure section.

Already, it is January 2012. Updates that changed the site structure and required theme changes have kept me busy, along with the many broken links left behind. I’ve been using Google Webmaster tools to help me fix some of those things. The Gazebo was finally updated. Now -with but a bit more fine-tuning I can work at adding more articles. As always, I desire reader input. If you contact me through the link in the footer or -better yet- put your ideas on the Facebook Page for Ilona’s Garden it would improve the website. Thanks!

Lots of changes in 2011. I gave the whole site a new template to better navigate and try to reduce the load times (although the features and many pictures make it slower). I have been adding content index pages. ‘Vegetables‘ is new, and revamping others. Improving the Resource Garden Links page. There are a number of new posts. Related posts were added to the bottom of each page. I appreciate the support and loyalty of all my readers-Thanks!

The last time I noted my updates here was in 2010, but here it is March 2011. I restructured the site a little… always trying to make the information easier to find. Lots of new content has been added, as I am trying to write more often. The posts vary between medium to very long in length. I changed the themes several times -I might be fickle… but it has been largely due to some themes which I might have loved for the look being just too long to load. That is not reader-friendly, so I hope the present theme is both good looking and faster loading.

Sept 16 So much is new!!! I experimented with different looks for the site and settled on this one from Elegant Themes. In the meantime they added features which make it easy to place visual improvements to the site; so I am busy implementing those. Some examples:

This is pertinent information
This one is for plant profile or style information
Green thumb tips
Important extra attention info
Cool, huh? Oh yes, and I keep writing new pages. Also, I hand crafted those page icons, so no you can’t have them, sorry.

April 29. Once you’ve visited here, or signed up to the feed- there is one thing you will notice: I write these pages in spurts. Because this is more of a “website”, I try to put as much care into the articles as I always have, unlike my blogging which is sometimes very spur-of-the-moment fragments, thoughts, or notes on other people’s stuff around the web. I just wrote a couple new plant profiles and added a plant list for “dry soils”. I often update certain pages, and the lists will see more resources listed as time goes on. When first making my gardens, that was the single most helpful thing – I really appreciated plant suggestions for certain conditions I encountered around the yard. Hope you like the new pages :)

March 13 2010. Refined the site’s look with some fresh colors, and made sure all is working correctly after recent updating. Added a Tweet Button to posts, so tweet away, my friends- if you like it share the good things :) Wrote several new posts and some plant profiles. Concentrated on some inspiration and how-to for new gardeners. They are the future of the environment, and want to eat well. What is better than an easy vegetable garden and herbs by the door? Is there interest in a forum here? So many garden forums nowadays, but maybe room for one more with local flavor. Let me know!
