As the site grows this is where the update news can be found.
Site news:
Oct. 20 I changed the site structure around by adding new pages to the “Plant Highlights section. I had too many pages that were getting lost with all the new writing I had done on specific plant profiles, etc. So now when you come to the page, if you go to the “Shrub” page for example, you get all the writing I’ve done on that type of plant. I’m adding the pages from my garden journal to the list if they are particularly informative.
Sept.23 You had to have noticed: I changed the look of the site. I tweak it all the time, but I got tired of all the white space and wanted something more cozy for winter. Like sitting in the den, looking out the window and dreaming/planning the garden. Starting to write articles on specific varieties, like the Tulip recommendations.
Sept. 15 Completely reworked the index page of articles to be easier to navigate and closer to what I like when looking up information. Hope it is a better experience for you, dear readers. Added many new plant profiles.
This summer I added numerous articles including many plant profiles in the posts. In pages I am starting a series of monthly additions entitled “Poetry and Wit of the Season” under the garden calender section. For September Poetry and Wit of the Season: September has been published. Like the gardening tips pages these will be updated over time.
The Gazebo is back online, it has news pertinent to gardening, and if you join my update newsletter (although this is sent out once in a blue moon), or bookmark my “What’s New?” page so you won’t miss any announcements.
June 19 This has been a busy productive month. Besides the complete update on the blog, I have written new posts and pages. Roses have been the appropriate emphasis of this June! I added a rose gallery page for the many rose photos that will be uploaded over time. I no longer grow large numbers of roses on my property, only those that survive cold winters with little care, but I often frequent the Rose Park in Columbus that is one of the premier rose gardens of the USA. Longtime top ten favorite garden pick of mine.
June 12 As you may have noticed, the entire blog has changed. I wasn’t really planning on a template change, but when I upgraded the wordpress platform- the entire site “broke”! So I had to go with a wp 2.8 compliant template, and that was elegantthemes “Puretype”. Once it is fully customized I think I, and more importantly, you, will find it better and faster since the upgrade process took place. There is quite a bit more to do in terms of “the look”, but everything is working and showing up, now. If you have problems viewing or suggestions please use my contact form to alert me. Thanks so much
Mar.25 Gazebo has new FAQ page started- it is a collection of -what else? – questions often asked. Send me your questions, pretty please. Setting up a forum for this site, now. Increasing the plant profiles, (Marjoram is the newest) with a plant profile blog to quickly access it all.
Mar.04 The catalog advice page is done.
Feb 28-Mar 03 09. The roses pages, 1 and 2, rose poetry, and ‘choosing garden tools‘ page are all in the new theme and with added content.
Jan. 25-27 I reworked the entire site with a new theme which meant a lot of new graphics, and changing the post to work with the theme. Still need to make the header and some thumbnails. But I believe that this was necessary for people to find their way to more of the pages and get more information quickly. Hope this is a good change for everyone.
Jan 11-09 Another new plant highlight page, Virginia Bluebells. One of my favorite garden wildflowers.
Jan 8-09 The Perennial Page is now updated to the new format with added content.
Jan 7-09 Starting out right: upgraded the wordpress version to 2.7. I added pagination to break up the long pages. Now, the bottom of each part has a ” Pages on this topic” set of pages i.e. “1,2″ etc. I hope this allows the pages to load faster for visitors, although it means you can click off before getting all of the information… that should be your choice. Adding in “January” garden tips, although more tips will be added in over time.
Nov 3-08 Continuing to update the html part of the site- adding new content and photos to Summer Fragrance in the Garden. I am changing the template on all of these pages over time- it’s a lot of work!
Oct. 7-08 I changed the template for the site, like it? Contact me if you have suggestions.
For now, Oct.2-08, the portal part of the site is offline as I upgrade. I hope for this to have a comprehensive set of links, as well as news items. I have started a page of selected links in this site, but it is presently undeveloped. There are so many resources online for the gardener now, it is really amazing, and I hope to point to many of them.
September 22-08 Re-designing the pages and adding new bits of info to the garden articles from the original site- long overdue. Temporarily broken parts of the site due to upgrading of “the portal” directory and the PHP version. Preparing to add wiki area to this site.
September 2008- kicked off the month with a new “how-to” article: Planting a Tree or a Shrub.
August 2008- added two pages: In Quest of the Good Garden, and The Cutting Garden.
July 2008- updated and tweaked several pages including the “About” page. New page posted in the Plant Highlights section: Lamium Maculatum : Elegant Groundcover. The Kitchen Garden added.
In the works: new plant highlights and additions to Cottage gardening, as well as a page on New American garden style. That will elaborate on the environmental friendly style suggested in the xeriscaping page.
