Dependable information to support your landscaping efforts~

Hi! I’m Ilona- yes, there is a real “Ilona“, and I have a real garden. Welcome to my personal garden site.

On this site I try to give you lots of information, the type that I always wanted from my resources.

The Background Story

Welcome to Ilona's Garden

Welcome to Ilona's Garden

I thought that there might be other gardeners out there that would like the landscaping shortcut of an “over the fence” online resource in making their own gardens. So I started creating pages in the old website, ‘Ilona’s Reflecting Pool‘ (1998) to jot down my ideas on designing and growing my idea of a “planted place”. My experience has been centered in Central Ohio, creating a garden in the city, and then landscaping my present home in rural Ohio. I write from a Midwestern perspective in both soil, conditions, and attitude!

my philosophy:
The lesson I have thoroughly learnt, and wish to pass on to others, is to know the enduring happiness that the love of a garden gives.~ Gertrude Jekyll

There are new pages sprouting up around here all the time, see the Plant Profiles page with all the new posts on specific plants.

“We come from the earth, we return to the earth, and in between we garden.”

You can have a better garden if you:

Gardening is fun and it something that welcomes all levels of interest and ability. If you start with those three points above, and then you just might find yourself branching out into designing and experimenting with plants to create your own unique environment. Your home and all the extensions of it, whether the yard or your houseplants, all influence your feeling of well being and that of those around you. Sometimes it is surprising how much! Growing vegetable gardens can shave money off your food bill. Maybe it is time to plan a Kitchen Garden, after you find out the truth about growing your own food.

Under each Main topic, find a short general information paragraph and links to the pages belonging to that topic. Perennials, Annuals, Bulbs under “Flowers“, and Monthly chore lists and tips under their respective months. The “Learn” area is new, with the tutorials and links for gardening skills. Design has always been a real emphasis in articles and posts. and because the gardeners soul is a large part of why there is so much passion tied to growing things, I have created quotes pages for poetry and wit- look under each month in the task calender and within the Garden Wisdom page. have fun exploring and be sure to come back!
