For Dry Spaces : Plant List

One of the most valuable pieces of plant information is a list of plants for a particular growing condition. There are always certain spaces in the yard which are difficult to use to good advantage, but with using a plant that either tolerates or likes that condition the problem is solved.

This list contains suggested plants that I know grow in this part of Ohio. check with the resource links for more suggested plants.

Dry Shade is the most difficult. There are many plants that will tolerate dryness, if they have sunshine, but not many will grow where both light and moisture is restricted. There are some, though.

Bergenia cordifolia
Hellebores
Lamium Maculatum
Monarda
Tradescantia ohiensis (an Ohio native!)
Vinca minor

Dry, but with some sun, will be a space that benefits from plants recommended for “xeriscaping“. If your yard is located within a climate that often has droughts or if your city regularly calls for water conservation, these plants might be just what Dr. Greenjeans orders.
